Eight-day-long Nazrul conference begins
Begum Uma Kazi and Late Nilufer Yasmin get the Nazrul Academy Medal 1410

It was back in 1964, when the Nazrul Academy was established with some of the eminent Nazrul specialists like Talim Hossain, Sabir Ahmed Choudhury, Justice Moudud Ahmed, Badruddaula, Abul Kalam Shamsuddin and others. The present Secretary of the academy Mintu Rahman said about the objective of the academy, 'The academy was established to present and preserve the works of Nazrul and also to carry research accordingly.

To mark the 104th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Nazrul Academy organised an eight-day-long 'Nazrul Conference 1410' from June 1 to 8. On the first day the academy awarded two personalities for their remarkable contribution: one is Nazrul's daughter-in-law Begum Uma Kazi for nursing Nazrul when he was sick, and the other is Nilufer Yasmin ( Posthumous) for contribution in Nazrul's songs. The awards were given by the chief guest of the first day's programme, M Shamsul Islam, the Land Minister.

The chief guest in his speech said, 'Nazrul was a versatile genius. He brought the proletariat politics in his poems. It is a great shock for us that only two Ph. D.s have been done so far on Nazrul in Bangladesh.'

Speaking as the special guest Nazrul specialist Abdul Mannan Syed said, 'Nazrul brought such a subject in his poems which was actually the subject of essays--society and politics, the freedom of the country. He also brought the secularism between the Hindu and the Muslim in his literature, which exists in our society but not in the literature. He was a journalist for quite some time and for this his picture should be kept in all the press clubs of the country.'

Among others the granddaughter of Nazrul, Khilkhil Kazi, Mintu Rahman, and Chairman of the academy, Ashraf Siddiqui and actor Khairul Alam Shabuj spoke in the evening.

A cultural programme followed the discussion session performed by the students of Nazrul Academy. .

Among others Rafiqul Islam, Mofizul Islam, Sifat-E-Manjur, Rasheda Zaman Kishi, Ismat Jahan, Bijoya Sen, Masuda Nargis Anam also performed.
