Politics took backseat as Kibria visits ailing Saifur

Awami League Presidium Member SAMS Kibria Monday visited Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and wished his early recovery.

The former finance minister reached the CMH at 7:30pm and inquired about Saifur's health.

The two fierce rivals on the economic front talked 40 minutes away by updating each other on family members and personal issues.

Kibria however jokingly remarked that the health of Saifur might have been deteriorated suddenly due to the budget stress. He also hoped that a few days' rest would get Saifur back in shape.

"I did not go there for any political reason," Kibria told The Daily Star last night. "I know him since 1950. This was just a social visit."

He said they did not discuss budget or politics, but talked about old days, family members and personal matters.

Saifur, who was admitted to the CMH last week for treatment, is expected to be released today.
