Role of Justice Abu Sayeed recalled

A function was held in the city on Wednesday in commemoration of the opening of the first high commission of Bangladesh in the United Kingdom.

The high commission was set up on August 28, 1971, during the War of Liberation.

The speakers at the function recalled the role of late Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury in establishing the mission.

"Everyone has to unite keeping the political rivalry aside if we want to build a progressive Bangladesh as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman," said former state minister for foreign affairs Abul Hossain Chowdhury.

Organised by the UK Liberation War Organisers Forum, Bangladesh, the meeting was presided over by forum convenor Azizul Huq Bhuiyan.

The-then chief of the mission and former secretary MM Rezaul Karim and former adviser to the Bangladesh Government Zakaria Khan Chowdhury also spoke.
