Singer Begum Ismat Ara and poet Abdul Hai Shikdar receive the awards
Poet Talim Hossain Trust have been giving away awards to the researchers and practitioners on Nazrul since 1998. Begum Ismat Ara in music and Abdul Hai Shikdar in research have been awarded this year. The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Moudud Ahmed, as the chief guest, handed over the awards.
Talim Hossain, the founder of Nazrul Institute, was a noted poet whose famous books include Dishari, Shahin, Nuher Jahaj. He was a successful organiser and journalist as well. Talim Hossian contributed largely to the revival of Nazrul's practice in the 1960s cultural arena of the country.
In the '50s and '60s there were only a few Nazrul singers in the country who enchanted the Nazrul lovers and amongst them singer Begum Ismat Ara was one. She sang many famous Nazrul songs like Moner Katha Tabo Jabar Belay Boley Jao, Adho Adho Bol, Ashlo Jokhon Phuler Phagun, E Nohey Bilash Bandhu and others.
Poet Abdul Hai Shikdar is a Nazrul researcher. According to him Nazrul is essential to our cultural existence. Shikdar has written many research based books on Nazrul like Kabitirtho Churulia, Bangladeshe Nazrul Nazruler Bangladesh, Tomar Choron Sharan Chinho and Bangladeshey Nazrul Charcha, Mukhosh O Bastobota.
The discussants Asadul Haque, poet Mahmud Shafiq and Mosharraf Karim spoke on Nazrul and the awardees of the programme. The programme ended with Nazrul songs sung by eminent singers of the country.
