Folk festival from tomorrow


A three-week long folk art and crafts fair and folk festival 2004 will begin on the Folk Art and Crafts Foundation premises at Sonargaon in Narayanganj tomorrow.

Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman will inaugurate the fair while State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Prof. Md Rezaul Karim will present as chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Selima Rahman will preside.

Sheetal pati of Sylhet, Nokshi Kantha of Chapainawabganj, Shatranji of Rangpur, wooden doll of Sonargaon and many other handicrafts will be displayed and sold in 150 stalls in the fair.

The cultural programmes include Palagan, Baul song, Gambhira, songs of Hasan Raja, Lalongiti, Bhawaia-Bhatiali songs, Garo dance and Puthi Path.

Besides, kite flying, Lathi Khela, art competition and pitha (cake) festival will also be held.
