Pirates loot 7 trawlers, throw 10 fishermen into deep sea
Six crew abducted


Pirates looted cash and valuables worth Tk 70 lakh from seven fishing trawlers and threw ten fishermen into the deep sea on Monday, according to a delayed report reaching here yesterday.

The incident took place in Baruar Bada area in the Bay, about 45 kilometers south of Patharghata coast.

The pirates also hijacked two trawlers with six fishermen.

At least twenty fishermen and crew were injured in the attack, according to survivors now under treatment at Patharghata Health Complex. They are Aziz, Alam, Lohu Khan, Mozammel, Kamal and Siddik. Others were released after treatment.

They narrated the incidents to Patharghata Fishing Trawlers Association.

They said armed pirates on board speedboats looted the trawlers named Zikomoni, Matamuhuri, Shima, VaiVai, Maer Doa, Ahsan, and Joynab.

Those thrown into the sea are Idris Ali, Jamal, Aslam, Shahid, Sagir, Mizanur Rahman, Anwar, Salam, Joynal and Jamal. They are yet to be rescues, the survivors said.

After the piracy, the gang hijacked two trawlers named Zikomomni and Matmuhuri and six fishermen. The abducted fishermen are Zakir, Salam , Altaf Molla, Idris Molla, Wahed and Ruhul, all from Badurtala Gaharpur area in Patharghata.
