Hasina calls on Vietnamese president


Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina yesterday called on visiting Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and voiced her support for the recently signed agreements between Dhaka and Hanoi.

Talking to the Vietnamese president at his Hotel Sonargaon suit in the evening, Hasina, also the Awami League (AL) president, commended the far-eastern country for its pro-foreign investment economic policy.

Extending her support for the two agreements on avoidance of double taxation and agricultural cooperation, she stressed on increased bilateral economic, trade and business cooperation.

Talking to reporters after the half an hour long meeting, the AL chief said, "I told him that developing nations like Bangladesh and Vietnam should enhance economic cooperation to get mutually benefited."

She also told Luong that the two Asian nations have a historical relationship adding that a Bangladeshi delegation visited war-ravaged Vietnam after Bangladesh's independence.

Among others, AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil and leaders Zillur Rahman, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Kazi Zafarullah, Syed Abul Hossain and Ziauddin were present during the meeting.
