Project development activities
PM tells information cadre officials

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia yesterday asked the information cadre officials to build an effective bridge between the government and the people through proper projection of development activities.

"Work with more sincerity and devotion in projecting the programmes aimed at welfare of the people," she told the newly elected executive committee of Bangladesh Civil Service Information Association at the International Conference Centre.

A 35-member delegation led by newly elected President of the association M Abdul Mannan and General Secretary Enamul Huq met the prime minister and submitted a memorandum.

With the development in technology, the activities of the Information Ministry widened and the role of the officials of information service in disseminating news and information intensified, Khaleda said.

She regretted that government Department of Mass Communication is ineffective in proper projection of the government programmes and activities among the common


The prime minister noted that the government in the last two and a half years had taken up some epoch-making programmes in different sectors, including education, poverty alleviation, employment generation, agriculture, housing, empowerment of women and health.

Mentioning that the government was working to improve the living conditions of the rural people by providing doctors and necessary infrastructure in the health sector and creating employment opportunities, she said, "We all should work to stop the unnecessary influx into big cities."

Regretting that a certain quarter is engaged in tarnishing the image of the country abroad, the prime minister asked the information cadre officials to portray Bangladesh in its true perspectives.

In this regard, she said the BNP-led four-party alliance government ensured freedom of press and the private television channels also have a positive role to play and project the true picture of


Information Minister Tariqul Islam, PM's political secretaries Harris Chowdhury and Mosaddek Ali, Information Secretary Nazmul Alam Siddiqui and senior-most member of the Association Capt (Retd.) Syed Sujauddin were also present.
