Cop's purchase of Sikder's house under govt lens


A monitoring cell of the home ministry has started probe into a police officer's purchase of a two-storey building once belonged to notorious criminal Ershad Shikder.

Fazlur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jhikargachha Police Station in Jessore, a then inspector, bought the house at Bhairab Strand Road under Khulna Police Station for Tk 24 lakh under the name of his wife, sources said.

A special team of the cell has reportedly visited Khulna. The team will investigate the source of the petty police officer's income.

The team will also probe to identify the beneficiaries of Ershad Shikder, including some police officers, politicians and a business magnate.
