BSWA award ceremony held |
The Bangladesh Sports Writers Association (BSWA) distributed its sports awards for the years 2000, 2001 and 2003 yesterday.
President Professor Iajuddin Ahmed was the chief guest and handed over the awards among 28 sports personalities, organisers, coaches and sponsors at a local hotel.
2000: Mohammad Sharif (cricket), Lovely Chowdhury Ankhi (shooting), Asit Kumar Nandi (volleyball), Afzalur Rahman Sinha (organiser) and Pepsi (sponsor). Sportsman of the year: Aminul Islam (cricket)
2001: Mohammad Ashraful (cricket), Arman Miah (football), Elena Begum (badminton), Wahidul Ghani (coach-cricket), Prof Sheysta Khan (organiser-Chittagong) and Standard Chartered bank (sponsor). Sportsman of the year: Habibul Bashar Sumon (cricket).
2002: Alok Kapali (cricket), Rokonuzzaman Kanchan (football), Musa Miah (hockey), Asif Hossain Khan (shooting), Badsha Miah (Kabadi), Ahsan Habib Parash (badminton), Abu Yusuf (coach-football),
Anjan Chowdhury Pintoo (organiser) and Grameen Phone (sponsor). Sportsman of the year: Grand Master Ziaur Rahman (chess).
Recipients of special awards (posthumous): Meer Daulat Zaman and Tanveer Haider (cricket).
Special awards for contribution to sports: Alhaj Mosaddek Ali Falu (Mohammedan) and Salman F Rahman (Abahani).
Most active sports federation: Bangladesh Handball Federation.
