AL leader gunned down, hotelier shot

Criminals gunned down a ward unit leader of the Awami League (AL) in Ulan in Khilgaon late Wednesday night and a wayside hotel manager was shot in Shankar in Moha-mmadpur yesterday.

Locals found Din Islam Bhuiyan alias Dilu, 35, AL joint secretary of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) Ward No. 22, wounded on a piece of watery land near Ekramul School at around 11:30pm.

With bullets in head and chest, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

Mohammad Mostafa, the victim's father, said his son was a local contractor and had a feud with local criminal Biplab over a tender. "Biplab threatened to kill him about a week back," Mostafa alleged.

Locals said Dilu contested in the last ward commissioner election as an independent candidate.

In Mohammadpur, three criminals entered a roadside hotel at around 11:30am and shot in the face of Wahidur Rahman, 60, manager, who is now receiving treatment at the DMCH.

Locals said the criminals demanded Tk 1,000 per week from hotel owner Abdul Matin Mollah, who refused to pay them.

"The criminals looked for the hotel owner, who was not present then, and shot the manager," said a hotel boy.
