Actress Nazma Anwar passes away

Renowned actress Nazma Anwar passed away at her daughter's house in the city on Tuesday at the age of 63.

A pioneer drama activist, she played a major role in promoting theatre in the country.

Nazma, also a TV and film actress, started her career as a theatre activist about 40 years back when she joined Dhaka Drama Circle. In 1980, she joined Aranyak Natyadal, a popular theatre group.

She had performed in many popular plays such as Iblish, Guinea pig and Samatat.

She was buried at the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard at Mirpur.

Sammilito Sangskritik Jote and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation paid tribute to the late artiste at a memorial meeting at Shaheed Minar premises yesterday.

UNB adds: Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has expressed profound shock at the death of Nazma Anwar.
