Dhaka to offer reliefs to Male, Colombo |
Bangladesh will offer humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka and the Maldives in the wake of Sunday's tsunamis that killed at least 20,000 in Sri Lanka and several hundreds in the Maldives.
Two C-130 aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force with a 96-member team for Sri Lanka and a 61-member team for the Maldives are expected to leave Dhaka today.
Besides, two helicopters carrying rescue boats, 10 medical teams, tents, water purification plants, medication and cloths will make trips to the affected areas of the two countries.
The teams comprising members of the armed forces will join relief operations to cope with the consequences of Sunday's disaster, including spread of waterborne diseases.
Bangladesh will also send two offshore patrol vessels to Sri Lanka and the Maldives to help carry out rescue operations in the two island countries.
