Balaji fined

Indian seamer Laxmipathy Balaji was fined Sunday for excessive appealing in the first Test against Pakistan which ended in a draw at Mohali.

Match referee Chris Broad fined Balaji 30 per cent of his match fee after umpires Darrell Hair and Rudi Koertzen reported him for the offence during the Test which ended on Saturday.

"There is no place for this sort of appealing in international cricket. The player has apologised for his actions and I hope that will be the end of the matter," Broad said in an International Cricket Council media release.

Balaji bagged nine wickets in his first Test in almost a year, after being sidelined due to injury.

The second Test will be held in Kolkata from Wednesday and will be followed by the final match in Bangalore from March 24.

The Tests will be followed by a series of six one-day internationals.
