BCL vows to resist Shibir workers

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the main opposition Awami League, yesterday demanded immediate withdrawal of 'false' case filed against its seven leaders and activists, including Dhaka University (DU) BCL President Delwar Hossain.

Md Belal Hossain, president of the DU unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, lodged the case against Ishtiak Ahmed Shimul, Alamgir Hasan, Nazmul, Tarek, Mizan and Kawser on charge of beating three Shibir workers on the university campus on March 15.

Addressing a rally on the campus, the BCL leaders vowed to resist the Shibir men at the educational institutions across the country as they have been destroying the academic atmosphere.

"We would no longer tolerate political activities of the Shibir in educational institutions," said BCL General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu.

BCL President Liaqat Sikder called on all, including the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of the ruling BNP, to be united to resist the Shibir men.

BCL leaders Marufa Akther Popy, Baloram Podder, Shahazada Mohiuddin, Khan Moinul Islam Mustak, Mazhar Anam, Miraz Hossain and Delwar Hossain also spoke.
