Rafiqul Bari Chowdhury passes away


National Award winner cinematographer Rafiqul Bari Chowdhury (75) died of cardiac arrest at the Central Hospital yesterday at noon. A popular cinematographer of our silver screen, he worked in a number of quality movies including Ekhoni Shomoy, Golapi Ekhon Trainey, Janmo Theky Jwalchhi, Shareng Bau, Shundari, Bhat Dey, Kanchanmala and Jayjatra. He was working on his own production Jibon Shimantey till he breathed his last.He was the first cameraman of the national television channel BTV.

Born in Brahmanbaria, his professional life began in the studios of Bombay, Lahore and Karachi. He was the former vice president of the Film Directors' Association. He has directed films such as Tanshen, Bhul Jakhon Bhanglo, Pension and Chandidas O Rajakini. He has also acted in a film Kolmi.

President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia condoled the death of Bari and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
