Dr Zobaida gets Rotary SEED Award


Dr Zobaida Hannan has been named for the prestigious Rotary SEED Award 2004-2005 in recognition of her distinctive contribution to education and economic development of the country.

The award is being given by the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Dhaka (RCDM). RCDM President Nazma Khan announced it at a press conference at the National Press Club yesterday.

Rotary member Prof. Anwar Hossain, Dr Muhammad Ahsan, AP Bureau Chief Farid Hossain and Kazi Kamal Uddin Ekram were present at the press conference.

Nazma Khan said Rotary SEED award was introduced in 1985 in recognition of the original outstanding works and significant contributions made by notable living worthy citizens of Bangladesh in the fields of science, education and economic development (SEED).

Farid Hossain, also former RCDM president, said SEED is the most prestigious and precious cash award in Bangladesh.

This year, the award carries Tk 2 lakh-Tk 150,000 in cash and 50,000 in terms of gold medal.

The award will be handed over to Zobaida on July 25.

Zobaida Hannan has been chosen for the award for her relentless work to educate and economically develop the village Asharkota under Nagalkot upazila in Comilla and transform it into a self-reliant locality.
