JCD drives BCL men from Ruet halls

Tension has been running high at the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) as the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadres attacked and drove the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) workers from all its dormitories on Wednesday night, leaving 20 BCL workers injured.

The seriously injured activists are Asaif Abedin, Abdullah Al-Mamun, SM Ahsan Habib, Nawazes Rahman, Mahbub Alam, Saikat, Mukta, Omar Faruk, Manos and Joy. They were rushed to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and local clinics for treatment.

Equipped with sharp weapons, iron roads and hockey sticks, a group of JCD cadres led by its Acting General Secretary Sajib Barua and Organising Secretary Tomal raided the Shaheed Salim Hall and stormed the rooms of BCL workers, sources said.

They then beat up the BCL workers and vandalised the rooms, damaging computers, chairs and tables, books and valuable papers.

The JCD men also searched the TV Room and the Games Room for the BCL men.

At the same time, another group of JCD men attacked and drove their opponents from different dormitories, including Hamidul Islam Hall and Shahidul Islam Hall.

Sources said the JCD cadres also announced that no other student organisations, in particular BCL, can stay on the campus.

General students also could not enter the halls as the JCD men guarded the hall gates.

Asif, a BCL worker, alleged that the JCD cadres also looted money and valuable instruments during the attack.
