BKSP sweep Uttara tennis titles


Henry Prithul Mondal clinched his first ever trophy when he won the men's single title of the Uttara Club Open National Tennis Tournament on Friday.

The giant-killing BKSP student, who stunned top seeded Amol Roy in the semifinals, slayed fancied Dipu Lal 1-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the final.

Ho Jo Fusako of BKSP secured the women's singles crown defeating Israt Sultana Ruma of BKSP 6-1, 6-3 in the final.

In fact, BKSP swept all the titles on the final day of the eight-day meet.

In the men's doubles event, Shah Newaz and Murad Hossain of BKSP emerged as champions outplaying Amol Roy and Laxman Lal 6-4, 6-4.

Israt Sultana Ruma and Ho Jo Fusako won the women's doubles title defeating Kunito Otaki and Ya Woo Kia of Japan Club by 6-1, 6-1.

In the under-16 girls' event, Mahi Ching of BKSP became champion beating her BKSP mate Masuma Sultana 6-2, 6-1.

Omar Faruk of BKSP won the boys' under-14 title beating Arif Hossain of Narayanganj Club 6-0, 6-2.

In the under-12 boys' event, Sheikh Hasibul Haque of BKSP became champion defeating Tasfin Alam of Uttara Club 6-4, 6-1.

Housing and Public Works Minister Mirza Abbas distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
