Nat'l Hockey
Army, Faridpur atop groups

Holders Bangladesh Army avoided a repeat of last year's final against Faridpur in the semifinal stage of the ABS Group National Hockey Championship when they shared points in their Super Six match against Dhaka on Thursday.

The match ended in a goalless draw.

Both Army and Dhaka finished on four points in the group but Army emerged as group champions by virtue of better goal difference.

In tomorrow's semis, Army will take on Rajshahi while Dhaka are pitted against last year's runners-up Faridpur, who brushed aside Rajshahi 5-1 in the day's other Super Six fixture at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium.

Musa Mia struck twice while Prashanta, Hassan and Titu scored one goal apiece to complete the rout for Faridpur who won both their Super Six encounters to finish group winners.

Shishu netted a consolation goal for runners-up Rajshahi.
