Robbers kill one, abduct another


Armed robbers killed one and abducted another in separate incidents in Meherpur and Kushtia early yesterday.

A gang of 12 robbers entered the house of one Dabir Uddin at village Pirail in Sadar upazila at about 2.30am identifying themselves as men of local lawmaker, Meherpur police said.

As Dabir opened the door, the gang confined all members of the family to a room at

gunpoint and looted cash and valuables.

They stabbed Dabir's son Mosarraf 35, with sharp

knife as he tried to resist them. Mosarraf died on the spot.

Police reached the spot in the morning and sent the body to Meherpur General Hospital for autopsy.

A case was filed with Sadar police station in this connection.

In another incident, the criminals in the guise of the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) entered the house of one Babul Hossain at about 2.30am at village Shahela in Daulatpur upazila.

The armed gang confined all family members to a room. They abducted Babul's relative Intaz Ali 50, who came here several days ago.

Later, the gang demanded a ransom of Tk one lakh for release of Intaz.

Babul filed a case with Daulatpur police in this connection.

The victim was not rescued till filing this report.

At least 56 people were abducted in the district since January. The abducted include school and college students, businessmen, and farmers. The abductors also killed 13 people so far. At least 11 were still missing.
