BNP lawmaker beats college student

A local MP of the ruling BNP yesterday beat a college student for refusing to pay an extra amount of "examination centre fee" charged by his college.

MP Shahidul Alam Talukder beat Debashis Das, a degree examinee of Baufal Degree College, on the college campus at around 1:30pm as he denied to pay the extra fee of Tk 225 fixed by the college authority for the degree exams beginning tomorrow.

Around 500 examinees went to meet their principal, praying to consider the extra fee. The principal, however, refused the request.

The BNP lawmaker, also president of the executive body of the college, at a meeting of the institution came to learn that the students denied to pay the extra charge. He called the examinees and beat Debashish in presence of over 500 students.

Shahidul also warned journalists not to make any news of the incident.

Abdul Haq Mia, acting principal of the college, refused to say anything on the matter.

The MP also could not be reached for comments.

Last year, Shahidul beat daily Jugantar correspondent Monjur Morshed.
