A new honour for Baul songs
On the recommendation of an international jury, Unesco has proclaimed 43 masterpieces of the oral and intangible heritage from all regions of the world. Baul songs, representing the rich cultural tradition of Bangladesh have been selected as a masterpiece of living oral heritage, says a press release.

To commemorate this achievement, Unesco Dhaka plans to organise a one-day Baul song event on January 7. Begum Selima Rahman, State Minister for Cultural Affairs, will be the chief guest. The venue of the function is National Art Gallery Plaza, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka.
