Girl burnt alive, 87 houses gutted


A girl was burnt alive and 87 houses were gutted in a fire near Sitakunda rail station on Sunday night.

The dead was identified as Parveen Akther, 10, daughter of Sobhan Majee.

Sources said the fire originated from the kitchen of Sobhan Majee at about 10:30pm and burnt Parveen to death. The other members of the family managed to come out of the burning house. The fire soon spread in the area and damaged 87 houses.

Witnesses said the fire fighters from Chittagong extinguished the blaze after four hours' frantic effort.
