5 SUST students hurt in police firing

At least five students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet (SUST) were injured when police fired rubber bullets on 300 students.

The students blockaded the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway at Pathan Tala last night to protest against the beating up of four SUST students by Ragib-Rabeya Medical College (RRMC) students.

The injured students, Shamim, Shubhra, Rajib, Kabir and Shaheen, are undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses said around 300 students of the SUST blockaded the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway following a clash with the students of nearby RRMC.

The SUST students locked horn with the RRMC students after four of their fellows were beaten up by some RRMC students in the evening.

The students kept the road blocked until 12:45am. A huge contingent of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members were deployed there.
