New Lux Channel i Superstar lands a dream role in Daurchini Dwip

Amidst glitz and glamour, the grand finale of Lux Channel i Superstar 2006 was held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre on September 22. Jointly put together by Unilever Bangladesh's brand Lux and Channel i.

Both public votes (from SMS and internet votes) and scores counted for the aggregate final score. Afsana Ara Bindu was announced the first runner up and she received a cheque for Tk 5 lakh. Second runner up Ajmeri Haque Badhon received a cheque for Tk 3 lakh. The grand title of Lux Channel i Superstar went to Zakia Bari Momo, who was crowned by the former Lux Channel i Superstar, Shanu. Through winning the title, Momo gets the chance to play a lead role in the upcoming movie Daruchini Dwip, based on Humayan Ahmed's popular novel. Tauquir Ahmed will direct the movie. As the title winner Momo also received a Nissan car.

"Many of the girls are very talented and had performed very well, but Momo just stood out," said noted actress and one of the judges at the contest, Subarna Mustafa. Theatre and TV actor Tariq Anam Khan and seasoned film actor Alamgir were the other judges. "This time the contest has been more constructive and it's a pleasure to watch these young individuals evolve right before our eyes," said Tariq Anam.

"I can't express how I'm really feeling. I thank Allah, my family and friends, the judges and all the people out there without whom this would not have been possible. It has definitely been an amazing journey through every high and low, practices and prayers, tests and trainings and finally my dream has come true," said a teary-eyed Momo.

The grand finale was like a flash of their whole journey to stardom. Through two big screen monitors the audience was reminded of how the contestants had started their journey at Rajendrapur. There were flashbacks of the girls having a blast at Cox's Bazar.

The programme also featured performances by Runa Laila, Ayub Bachchu and a duet by Subir Nandi and Kaniz Shuborna.
