Ex-IGP opts for retirement after made OSD |
Former inspector general of police (IGP) Anwarul Iqbal on Thursday night went into voluntary retirement after he had been made officer on special duty (OSD).
Iqbal submitted a letter expressing his intent of voluntary retirement to the secretary of home ministry. He then vacated his Minto Road residence and moved to his Uttara house.
The interim government on Thursday night placed the IGP on OSD, made a few transfers and reshuffled a number of higher posts in the police administration.
In the letter, Iqbal sought voluntary retirement to be affective from December 1. He, however, showed personal reasons for his retirement.
After attending his regular duties, Iqbal went to his house around 10:00pm on Thursday and heard about his new position as OSD. He returned to his office and handed over the charge to the newly appointed IGP Khoda Bokhs Chowdhury around 11:00pm.
