JP can't take part in polls without Ershad
Party leaders tell EU delegation

Jatiya Party (Ershad) yesterday informed the visiting election observation mission from the European Union that they could not take part in the elections without party chairman HM Ershad in the race.

Measures will also be taken in this regard by the Awami League-led grand alliance, the party leaders told a two-member delegation of the mission during a meeting at the Banani office of the party chairman.

The delegation members Graham Ilson and Ms Jenny inquired about the possible party stand whether they would take part in the general elections if the chairman was declared ineligible for the polls.

Party presidium members Kazi Zafar Ahmed, Mostafa Jamal Haider and Ziauddin Bablu and secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader were present at the meeting.

They told the EU delegation that the present environment in the country is not conducive to holding the elections. Jatiya Party is definitely ready for the elections, but before that an election environment will have to be created, they added.

Jatiya Party further apprised the delegation of their demands that include extending the election schedule by 45 days, updating a flawless electoral roll, recasting the Election Commission and reshuffling of the administration.
