Songs of yesteryears
Monthly musical soiree by Srijon


Cultural organisation Srijon arranged it's monthly musical programme at Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium, National Museum on July 28. Titled Pheley Asha Diner Gaan, the programme observed Rabindranath Tagore's death anniversary (Auguest 7), featuring Tagore songs and poetry as well as popular adhunik songs.

The evening started with an instrumental presentation of the Tagore song Amar shokol dukher pradeep. Rashidul Gani and Kamal Jahir Shamim were on esraj and sarod respectively. Noted Tagore singer Fahim Hossain Chowdhury rendered two songs -- Ami ki gaan gabo and Aaji pronomi tomarey. Syed Shaikhul Imam recited two poems by Tagore -- Niharika and Artoshar.

Mahnaj Hossain and A.T.M. Jahangir rendered Megh bolechhey jabo jabo and Badolo diner prothom kodom phul respectively. Muntarin Mahal sang Thai thai shawon elo, a song popularised by Sandhya Mukherjee.

Upcoming artistes Masud Ahmed, Sanjida Titli, M.A. Hye Shahnoor, Badrunnesa Dalia and Rabeya Tapashi Ruma performed Shedin shona jhora shondhaye, Jeona shathi, Aainatey oi mukh dekhbey jakhan, Tumi je amar jiboner upohar and Srabono e shondhaye respectively.

The event wrapped up with two folk songs -- Piritey amar kalija angar and Nigum bicharey satya performed by Biman Chandra Biswas.
