At least two people were killed and 50 injured as Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked the motorcade of Awami League lawmaker Asaduzzaman Noor and clashed with AL men and law enforcers in Nilphamari today.
Five policemen including Assistant Superintendent of Police Shafiul were among the injured, police said, adding the lawmaker was unhurt.
The deceased were identified as Khorshed Choudhury, 50, Tupamari union unit president of Bangladesh Krishok League, and Siddique, 45, a local BNP leader.
The clash erupted around 4:00pm after the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, attacked the motorcade of Noor, also cultural affairs secretary of the ruling party, at Ramganj Bazaar in the Sadar upazila, reports our Nilphamari correspondent.

Locals and police said the local lawmaker went to see the affected Laxmichap, Shishatoli and Polash Bari villages in the Sadar upazila around 12:30pm.
On Thursday night, Jamaat-Shibir men in retaliation of execution of Jamaat assistant secretary general Abdul Kader Molla set ablaze about 70 shops and depots in the areas belonging to Hindu community and AL men.
Asaduzzaman Noor consoled the affected people and distributed some goods and money to them. He also delivered a speech at the spots.
While Noor was returning to Nilphamari by Ramganj- Mirganj road, Jamaat-Shibir men cut the approach road of a bridge over a local river on the road.
As the AL activists attending Noor tried to repair the road, several hundred Jamaat-Shibir men attacked them.
They pelted brick chunks, triggering a clash that lasted for around two hours.
At one stage police personnel escorting Noor and his entourage fired tear shells and rubber bullets.
As the situation deteriorated further, additional police forces and BGB from Nilphamari reached the spot and managed safe exit for Asaduzzaman Noor.
Most of the 50 injured were AL men.
