6 Shibir men killed in Noakhali clash

The activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, clashed with law enforcers in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali this afternoon, leaving six Shibir men dead and 15 injured.
All the six died on the spot but three deaths were reported instantly while the rest confirmed later, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
Five policemen were among the injured.
The clash erupted around 4:00pm when police intercepted a procession brought out by the Jamaat-Shibir men from the local model high school in support of their Sunday’s hartal.
The activists set fire to the offices of land, family planning and public health engineering in the upazila at this point prompting the police to fire.
Six Shibir activists were killed at this point, acting officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station.
The deceased were named as Saiful, Motiur Rahman Sajib, Saiful Islam, Russel, Raihan and Abdus Sattar. All are aged between 21 and 24.
At least five policemen including Shafiqul Islam, the OC of the police station, were injured when the demonstrators threw cocktails and bricks, said Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police.
The firemen rushed to the spot and bring the flames under control.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any further incident.
