5 killed in Tangail road crash

Five people, including three brothers, were killed as a truck ran them over when their pickup van overturned while trying to avoid pickets’ attack in Kalihati upazila of Tangail Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, and his two brothers Nazim Uddin, 45, and Anwar Hossain, 42, of Binnori village, Dewan Ali, 45, of Pathan village and Shahidul Islam Kalu, 42, of Bhabanipur village in the upazila, reports our Tangail correspondent.

The pickup van overturned when it came under attack of a picket at Aag Bikromhati around 5:45am, said Kamruzzaman Raj, a sub-inspector of Elenga Highway Police Outpost.

The picket threw brick chips on it and broke its windshield.

The truck ran over the five pickup van passengers who fell to the ground after the vehicles turned turtle, said Shamsul Alam, a sub-inspector of Kalihati Police Station.

All the deceased were cloth traders, the SI added.
