BNP-Jamaat alliance to stay intact: Moudud

BNP senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Saturday said his party’s alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami will remain intact in spite of a High Court verdict declaring Jamaat’s registration illegal.

“Our unity with Jamaat is still there and this unity will prevail in future,” he said at a protest meeting at the Jatiya Press Club.

United Democratic Front, a pro-BNP organisation, organised the meeting protesting “indecent” comment of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Speaking as chief guest, Moudud, a BNP national standing committee member, said there will be no obstruction for Jamaat to participate in the next general election due to the court verdict.

He also said the HC verdict will also put no impact on BNP as well as the opposition alliance.

Moudud said tougher programme will be announced after Eid to materialise opposition’s demand for restoration of caretaker government system.

He also demanded that the Election Commission has to be reconstituted as it is acting as an “agent” of the government.

Urging Joy not to make “indecent comment” on Tarique, Moudud said people will listen to you if you follow new trend of politics.

He said people will accept Tarique, not Joy.

In another programme at the same venue, BNP acting secretary general Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Awami League wants to “grab power bringing their new commander” in the country.

Pointing to Joy’s return to Bangladesh, the BNP spokesperson said it would not be possible to do so if the “new commander” has no involvement with the country’s people.

“He said people will accept Tarique, not Joy”-
What a joke. Sorry to burst your bubble, Mr Ahmed, but people don’t accept people whose corruption records are as transparent as Tarique.
