Court rejects VC’s appeal against injunction

The Rangpur District and Sessions Judge’s Court has rejected the appeal against the permanent injunction on the process to appoint teachers and employees at the university.
Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Jalil Miah, vice chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), had filed the appeal.
As the news of the court order issued on Monday spread at the BRUR campus yesterday, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university, who are continuing demonstration demanding resignation of the VC, expressed jubilation.
Following a petition by a few teachers of the university, Md Mainuddin, senior assistant district judge of Rangpur, on April 10 issued interim injunction for seven days on the process to appoint teachers and employees at BRUR.
After hearing of appeal by Prof Abdul Jalil Miah, the senior assistant district judge on April 15 issued an order to stop the appointment process permanently.
Prof Jalil filed another appeal but Hasan Shaheed Ferdaus, district and sessions judge of Rangpur, rejected the appeal and issued the same order on Monday.
Earlier on January 28 this year, the University Grants Commission put restriction on all sorts of appointment process at BRUR.
Rangpur district units of Communist Party of Bangladesh, Workers Party of Bangladesh, Ganatantry Party, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Ganosanghati Andolan, Oil Gas Power Port Mineral Resources Rakkha Jatiya Committee, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, and Udichi Shilpi Gosthi will observe a token hunger strike at 10:00am today demanding resignation of Prof Abdul Jalil Miah as vice chancellor of BRUR.
Announcing the programmer at a joint press conference at a restaurant in the city yesterday noon, they also demanded trial of the ‘corrupt’ vice chancellor, appointment of an ideal person to the post, cancellation of all illegal appointments, publishing white paper on the VC’s alleged corruptions and restriction on his going abroad, and punishment to the policemen who tortured the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a section of Awami League and Chhatra League men under the banner of Sachetan Nagorik Samaj held a rally and staged demonstration in front of Rangpur press club yesterday afternoon in support of BRUR Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Jalil Miah.
