Ctg hill slope residents directed to move to safer grounds

Against the backdrop of torrential downpour for the last two days, people residing in Chittagong city’s hill slopes in four areas, were directed to immediately move to safer grounds to avoid the risk of landslides.
Some 800 families live on the hills, situated in Lalkhan Bazar, Moti Jharna, Tankir Pahar and Batali Hill areas and owned by Bangladesh Railway, Public Works Department and Chittagong Water Supply and Sewerage Authority.

Giving the directive during a visit to these areas, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan yesterday said, “We, in consultation with Chittagong City Corporation, Chittagong Development Authority and the Department of Environment, will conduct evacuations if the residents do not comply.”
