Diganta, Islamic TV go off the air

Diganta and Islamic television, known as pro-Jamaat-e-Islami TV channels, were blacked out early Monday.

The screens of the television channels displayed “no signal” till filing this report around 1:15pm.

“A joint team of BTRC and Detectives Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive at Diganta office sometime between 4:00am and 4:30am Monday. They directed our broadcast department to stop airing and seized our uplink modulator. They acted upon the government order, as they told us, to stop broadcasting the channel temporarily,” Mahbubul Alam, executive director of Diganta television, told The Daily Star over phone.

He however did not provide any direct answer when asked whether the move was linked with the channel’s coverage to Sunday’s rally of Hefajat-e Islam.

Despite repeated attempts over phone, no official of the Islamic television was contacted.
