BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today alleged that Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad has been picked up for boycotting “a staged-managed election”.
“His detention has proved that there is sign of democracy in the country,” the BNP leader said in a statement this afternoon.
Terming the upcoming election a “farce”, he said, “We strongly condemn the detention of the chief of a political party and demand his immediate release.”
He said they are very worried at the detention of HM Ershad.
Law enforcers last night picked up the former president from his Baridhara residence and took him to Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.
