Main opposition BNP has termed the home ministry press note on Monday’s raid at the BNP central office as “a sheer lie”.
The party’s acting secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, made the comment while addressing a human chain organised by Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad before the Jatiya Press Club in the capital around noon.
The pro-BNP organisation arranged the programme demanding release of its secretary general ZM Zahid.
Zahid was arrested on Monday during the raid on BNP headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital.
According to the press note, 18-party opposition alliance called Tuesday’s hartal before explosion of several homemade bombs near a BNP rally in front of its headquarters on Monday.
The BNP leader criticised the government for the note and said they called the shutdown after the bomb explosion.
The BNP leader also reminded the government of its ultimatum that the opposition parties will enforce shutdown for March 18 and 19, if their leaders and activists were not released by Thursday.
Fakhrul termed the press note mentioning the police attack on Awami League central office in 2004 as unexpected.
The government should not look behind, rather it should act giving priority to the present circumstances, Fakhrul added.
