Inauguration of RFID Based Library Management and E-resources Access Center at North South University

The North South University inaugurated RFID Based Library Management and E-resources Access Center at its Library on May 21, 2013. The project was funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and directed by Kaniz Fatema, ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project, University Grants Commission (UGC).

M A Hashem, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU Trust attended the programme as the chief guest where Professor Dr Md Abdus Sattar, Acting Vice Chancellor, NSU chaired the session. Professor Dr A K M Atiqur Rahman, Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences; Dr M Mostafizur Rahman, Librarian, NSU and other administrative officials were also present at the occasion.

In his speech M A Hashem said, “I am very delighted to share with you that we are the first university to start the full system of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in our library. Our library has the highest priority as it is the heart of any university. I really thank University Grants Commission (UGC) for helping us to introduce the system.”

In his speech Dr Sattar said, “This will be a new helping hand for our students, faculties and officials to gather knowledge. I like to mention that we have 45,500 books, reports and bound journals and magazines, 1,877 CD ROM books and databases, 123 videos, 159 audio-cassettes, and 139 DVDs, subscribes printed issues of 46 foreign and 18 local journals, 20 foreign and 21 local magazines, two foreign dailies and almost all leading national dailies of Bangladesh. This actually highlights the priority we provide to our library.”
