Jabbarer Boli Khela tomorrow

The city of Chittagong is all set to hold the biggest wrestling event of the country, the Jabbarer Boli Khela, at the Laldighi Maidan tomorrow.
The century old competition that is held on the 12th of Baishakh merely bears testimony to a rich wrestling tradition that has been fading away from the port city of late.
Alongside the boli khela, a three-day Baishakhi Mela also takes place over an area of almost three kilometres centring the Maidan.
More than a century ago, in 1316 Bengali year (1909 A.D.), a rich businessman of Badarpati in Chittagong named Abdul Jabbar Sowdagor organised a wrestling event with a view to inspiring youths to anti-British struggle and physical strength display.
