Jubo League Savar units dissolved

Murad Jong not seen during PM's visit

The Jubo League yesterday dissolved its Savar upazila and municipality unit committees following the controversy over the involvement of Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza, with the organisation.
It also demanded exemplary punishment to Rana, claiming that he was a “self-proclaimed” leader of the Jubo League and had never belonged to the organisation, the ruling Awami League’s youth wing.
Meanwhile, Savar AL lawmaker Talukder Towhid Jong Murad was not allowed to accompany Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her visits to Enam Medical College and Hospital and the collapsed Rana Plaza site in Savar yesterday.
Sources in the Prime Minister’s Office said the premier was seriously annoyed with the lawmaker, an alleged patron of Rana.
Contacted, Jubo League Chairman Mohammad Omar Faruque Chowdhury said, “We have dissolved the two committees and directed our local leaders to remove all posters and banners of Savar Jubo League from the area within the next 24 hours.”
In a statement yesterday, the Jubo League said Sohel Rana was reported in the mass media as being the senior joint convener of its Savar Municipality unit. But, according to the party constitution, there is no such post in any tier of the organisation.
Even in the municipal committee, there is none named Sohel Rana in the joint convener post. Rana has used the self-claimed post using the name of Jubo League and printed posters and banners in his vested personal interest, read the statement.
Meanwhile, the organisation yesterday suspended its Narayanganj district unit publicity and publication secretary Zahirul Islam Parvez alias Kangaroo Pervez following a newspaper report that he had brandished a pistol during a protest rally of Narayanganj Sangskritik Jote in the town on Sunday, said another statement.
The rally was organised at the Shaheed Minar to protest the attack on one of the members of the jote by Pervez.
