10 HC judges sworn in

Ten High Court judges, who were regularised on Sunday, were sworn in yesterday.
Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain administered them at the Supreme Court auditorium in the morning.
The 10 judges are– Justice SH Md Nurul Huda Jaigirdar, Justice KM Kamrul Kader, Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, Justice Mohammad Ullah, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, Justice AKM Shahidul Huq, Justice Shahidul Karim, Justice Md Jahangir Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman.
In October 2011, late president Zillur Rahman had appointed them as additional HC judges for two years.

 

The Leading University vandalised by ‘sister concern college students’

Venue for inaugurating the campus of The Leading University in Biswanath upazila of Sylhet was vandalised allegedly by the students of Ragib-Rabea Degree College, a sister concern, yesterday.
Luthfur Rahman, public relation officer of the university, said the local students vandalised the hall room and torched the podium. The college has been closed since September 17 due to the students’ demand for the resignation of the principal.
They carried out the vandalism because their principal was invited to the function, he added.

 

One suffocated in oil-tanker in Ctg

A youth died from suffocation while cleaning the oil tank of a truck and two of his co-workers fell sick when they went inside to save him at Saraipara in Chittagong city on Sunday night.
The deceased was Md Sumon Meah, 20, of Comilla.
Jamal Meah, 30, and Md Solaiman, 29, are undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Seeing him faint inside the tank, the duo entered to rescue him and also fell sick, said CMCH police camp sources.
Sumon was declared dead at CMCH.

 

Man killed in attack in Ctg

A man was killed in an attack allegedly by his rivals at Ichhanagar village in Patiya upazila of Chittagong yesterday.
The dead was Jahangir Alam, 50, of the village.
Police said earlier two groups of the village filed cases against each other over a football match.
When Jahangir along with five others was going to attend a Chittagong court in one of the cases, the rival group attacked them around 9:15am, said police.
Injured Jahangir was declared dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 11:00am.

 

Death anniversary
Bss, Dhaka

 
The 28th death anniversary of Amin Ahmed Chowdhury, assistant editor of now defunct the Bangladesh Times and former Dhaka correspondent of Voice of America World Service, will be observed tomorrow.
Amin, also a former correspondent of The Guardian, died of a heart attack in 1985 at the age of 40.
A doa mahfil will be held at his village home at Ronokeli in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet.
