RMG workers block road for arrears in Ctg

Garment workers of Eian Apparels Ltd yesterday put up barricades in front of the factory at Agrabad Badamtali intersection in Chittagong city demanding payment of their arrears of two months.
In the morning, around 350 workers came to join work after a two-day leave but the officials asked them to go home, saying that the government had closed the factory, said the workers.
The factory was closed after the district administration on Saturday sealed off the five-storey building Jacks Shopping Complex, which houses it, as many cracks developed in the building.
When the workers demanded their arrears of March and April, the officials said owner Emdadul Hoque Chowdhury would give a decision, said worker Julekha Begum.
Following police action, the workers blocked the road for about half an hour demanding a written assurance.
The barricade was withdrawn after a notice, signed by the factory Director Monsurul Kabir, was served among the workers stating that their arrears would be paid on May 13.
