Local administration banned all kinds of public gathering in Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj for 15 hours from Sunday morning after two organisations had announced to hold separate rallies at the same time and venue same.
The section 144 which bans all kinds of public gathering was imposed as the upazila unit of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee announced to hold a rally at Koijuribazar at 3:00pm demanding death penalty to war criminals, said Matiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shahjadpur Police Station.
On the other hand, Hefazate Islam, a radical Islamist organisation, called a separate rally at the same venue and time in protest of demeaning Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh), the OC said.
To avoid clashes, Russell Sabrin, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Shahjadpur, imposed the ban.
Four areas of the upazila–Koijuribazar, Charkoijuri, Gopalpur and Hatpatuli–came under the ban that will remain effective till 9:00pm Sunday from 6:00am, reports our Pabna correspondent.
