Shibganj upazila chairman held

Police on Saturday evening arrested Shibganj upazila chairman in Chapainawabganj in connection with several criminal cases.

Keramat Ali is also the district nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station, said the law enforcers picked him up from his house at Jalmachhmari in Shibganj municipality area around 7:00pm.

Keramat is accused in several cases filed for different offences including assault on police and carrying out subversive activities, the official said.

Meanwhile, the BNP-led 18-party alliance in which Jamaat is a partner has called an eight-hour hartal in Chapainawabganj district for Sunday in protest against the arrest.
