The three-day ’1st International Animation Cartoon Festival Bangladesh 2013′ ended on Sunday at Dhaka’s Shishu Academy auditorium. During the festival, 70 animated films from 17 countries — including Bangladesh — were screened at the Academy auditorium.
The festival began on March 29 with the theme “Shishura Shajabey Notun Prithibi”. Renowned puppeteer Mustafa Monwar was chief guest at the opening ceremony, while cartoonist Ahsan Habib; cultural personalities Asaduzzaman Noor (MP), Pijush Bandapadhyay and Ali Imam were present as special guests. The festival witnessed a large number of children as it was the first such event in the country.
Organiser of the event, Children Communication Bangladesh (CCB) invited 80 children from primary, secondary schools and children’s organisations from Dhaka at the festival. During the three days, the academy’s auditorium was brimming with children talking excitedly, as they usually do not get opportunities to watch cartoons on the big screen.
CCB, in association with Ifad Multi Food Products Limited, organised the event. During the event, CCB conferred crests and certificates on the cartoon makers.
Swommo, a grade-3 student in the audience said, “I love cartoons; I enjoyed the festival a lot.” Dipto, a young animator, said, “It is a very good initiative; arranging such festival will entertain children and encourage animators and cartoonists as well.”
Organisers expressed hopes of continuing this initiative, while parents appreciated the event, saying that it would provide healthy entertainment for children and make them curious about making animated films.
