Transport strike in Sirajganj

Transport workers yesterday went on a wild-cat strike in Sirajganj protesting attack on an association leader.
Sirajganj district transport workers association enforced the indefinite strike from morning.
Association sources said, ruling party backed transport worker Md. Hazrat Ali attacked Md. Abdul Mozid, president of the association, when he was sitting at SI bus counter in the town on Tuesday night. Hazrat beat him up following an altercation over a trival matter, they claimed.
“After the attack, we informed the police but they are yet to arrest him. If the attacker is not punished the strike would continue”, said Md. Ansar Ali, secretary of Sirajganj district transport workers association.
The sudden strike in Sirajganj halted movement of transports between northern districts and the capital.
Contacted, Md. Rofikul Islam, officer in-charge of Sirajganj police station, said that the attacker fled away after the incident. Asked about the reason behind the attack, the OC said that it was an internal matter of the transport workers’ association.
