Cambrian opens Mondiaogo Club to enhance Intercultural Dialogue

Subrata Kumar Das

"THERE are similarities between Mondialogo ideologies and the liberation philosophies of Bangladesh,” commented Sultana Kamal, former adviser of the Caretaker Government on the occasion of the opening of Mondialogo Club at Cambrian College, Baridhara, Dhaka. The programme was also addressed by Principal Dr. Karunamaya Goswami, Shahnoor Wahid, Assistant Editor of the Daily Star, M. K. Bashar, Chairman of Cambrian College, and Subrata Kumar Das, the Coordinator of College Mondialogo Club.

Sultana Kamal praised the Cambrian authorities for promoting UNESCO initiated intercultural dialogue. She asserted that students getting involved in dialogue with the people of other cultures will surely be able to develop patience and tolerance. In her speech she expressed her deep faith that if the forthcoming generations are engaged in these activities, they will be able to prove themselves to be better citizens not only for the nation, but also for the whole world.

Dr. Goswami said that similar activities may bring people out of all prejudices and limitations. Commenting on the recent crisis of the country, he said that if there had been dialogues between different groups, we could have avoided many such killings and bloodshed. M.K. Bashar ensured all possible support to such activities that is aimed at creating the future leaders of the world. It is worth mentioning that Mondialogo is a platform of Intercultural dialogue among students worldwide. It was initiated by UNESCO and Daimler in 2003 and since then more than 60,000 students have been engaged from about 150 countries of the world. Since then it has generated much enthusiasm among students and teachers across the world. The three teachers who will be working on the advisory board of Mondialogo Club are Md. Ashraful Ajam Khan of the Bangla Department, Nasir Uddin of the English Department and Anirban Sarkar of the Zoology Department. The whole programme was conducted by Md. Ashraful Ajam Khan, Assistant Professor of Bangla.
