2nd JUDO Inter University Debate Championship 2009

IN the open stage (Muktomoncho) of Jahangirnagar University filled with tensed silence, Syed Md. Tafhim, president of the Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization(JUDO) announced the result of 2nd Inter University Debate Championship. Students cheered loudly as he said…"and the winning team is….. DUDS!"

The result of the final debate competition was announced during the closing ceremony of the festival on 21 February. The gala event of the three-day national debate championship ended with the announcement of the winning and runner up team AIUB. Brilliant participants engaging in verbal battle on various topics took part in the debate.

A total of 26 teams from 19 public and private universities took part in parliamentary-type competition titled 'Asian City 2nd JUDO Inter University Debate Championship-2009'.

The teams were from the Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Dhaka Medical College, Rajshahi University, Stamford University, Brac University, East West University, Daffodil University, AIUB, CUET, KUET, IUT and Khaleda Zia Medical College. Two teams from JU participated in the competition.

The championship, organized by the central debate organization of JU and sponsored by Asian City began on 18 February. This was the second such initiative by JUDO. Channel i and Radio Amar were the media partners.The DUDS emerged as the champion of the debate competition. Mohammad Asad of Dhaka University was adjudged the best speaker of the competition. Sorifa Shabnam Tania of JU and Shupti of CU got the champion and runner-up position in ‘baroary’ format debate.

Mr. Delip Borua, Minister, Ministry for Industrial Affairs attended the award giving ceremony as the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Vice chancellor of JU and Advocate M.N. Zaman, Chief advisor of Asian City were present as special guests. Syed Md. Tafhim, president of JUDO, presided over the ceremony. Mr. Abdullah Ahmed, Mazharul Islam and Muksimul Ahsan were the advisers of the championship steering committee.
