Julius Caesar staged at IUB

The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the presentation of the play Julius Caesar of William Shakespeare, staged by Tara Arts, London in association with Stage One, Dhaka on December 19, 2010 at the university's campus at Bashundhara in Dhaka.
Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Governing Council of IUB, Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury, Vice Chancellor and other faculty members of the university, renowned singers Rafiqul Alam, Abida Sultana and other invited distinguished guests from different sections of the society, members of the Governing Council and Trust of IUB enjoyed the play.
Tara Arts used both Bangla and English languages in the play while women performers played all the characters of the drama, although there are only two female characters in Julius Caesar. Director Mukul Ahmed informed that this is a tribute to all the women freedom fighters of the country. He also informed that all the earnings from the play would be funded for the cause of breast cancer and the women freedom fighters of Bangladesh.
Greta Clough, Imogen Butler Cole, Mita Chowdhury, Naila Azad, Pooja Sengupta, Nahida Sharmin, Sibylle Bernardin, Tanya Huq, Farhana Mithu and Tara Jaffar performed in the play.
The play was re-staged at the same venue on 20 December 2010 and was open for all including students, guardians and faculty members of the university.
Monipur Uchcha Biddalaya to celebrate its Re-union
Monipur Uchcha Biddalaya Alumni Association (MUBAA) is going to celebrate the second Grand Re-union of ex-batches (1975-2010) to be held on January 28, 2011 at Sultana Kamal Women Complex in Dhanmondi.
The programme is divided into three sessions including cultural show, fashion show, raffle draw and games.
It is also to be notified that Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Education will be present as Chief Guest. Besides, Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Executive Director, CPD and Mr. Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, Honourable MP, Dhaka will be present as Special Guest.
Third International Conference held at Southeast University

Southeast University and the Global Business & Management Forum jointly organised the Third GBMF International Conference, entitled Business Competencies in a Changing Global Environment, successfully hosted on December 23, 2010, at the Seminar Hall of the Southeast University campus.
Mr. Dilip Barua, honourable Minister of Industries of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, attended the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, Acting Vice Chancellor of Southeast University, chaired the conference. The keynote speech was presented by Mr. Mamun Rashid, Managing Director of Citibank, N. A.; Prof. Ziaul Haque, President of GBMF USA; Wg Cdr Tabarak Hossain Bhuiyan, Senior Vice President and Head of HR, Prime Bank Ltd; and Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, School of Business Studies, Southeast University spoke on the occasion. Vice Chancellors from different universities chaired the various sessions of the daylong conference, which was attended by local and foreign guests and participants.
Chief Guest, Mr. Dilip Barua, Minister of Industries, commended the exemplary efforts of Southeast University as a private university and advised all university teachers to complement their teaching with research.
The Conference Chair, Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, delivered a welcome speech, thanking the participants and guests and expressed his pride in the accomplishment of Southeast University in hosting a conference of this stature, which will aid in achieving the goal to provide quality education in Bangladesh.
GBMF President Prof. Ziaul Haque appreciated the role of Southeast University in facilitating the advancement of education and research and in enhancing the acceptability of private universities internationally.
Inauguration of training on digital library at East West University
Basing on the concept “Digital Library for Digital Bangladesh”, East West university library disposed a training workshop on “Application of Greenstone Digital Library Software for building Digital Library” from 28 to 31 December 2010 at Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC), Savar, and Dhaka.
The Inauguration programme of the training workshop was held on 27 December at East West University auditorium. Mr. Muhammad Zamir, Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commission and State Minister, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh were present as the chief guest while Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, President, Board of Trustees of East West University spoke in the inaugural session. Professor Mohammed Sharif, Vice Chancellor, East West University presided over the programme.
In his speech, Chief Information Commissioner, Muhammad Zamir told that the right to information is one of the bases of good governance. In a democratic society, people have the right to know about the information.
Greenstone is a software for building and distributing digital library collections. It provides a new way of organising information and publishing it on the Internet or on CDs. Greenstone is produced by the New Zealand Digital Library Project at the University of Waikato, and developed and distributed in cooperation with UNESCO and the Human Info NGO. The aim of the software is to empower users, particularly in universities, libraries, and other public service institutions, to build their own digital libraries.
Ms. Dilara Begum, Librarian and Head of Library is the country coordinator of Digital Library Network South Asia (DelNetSA) sponsored by the University of Waikato, New Zealand. This training programme will assist library professionals of Bangladesh to build and manage digital library.
